You've just unwrapped your Wild Wonders candle. It smells incredible. You want to light it immediately — and you absolutely should. But a few simple habits will make sure every burn is as beautiful as the first.
Here's everything you need to know to get the most from your candle.
The most important burn is the very first one. Soy wax has a memory, which means it will follow the melt pattern set in that initial burn. Light your candle and let it burn until the entire surface has melted to the edges — this usually takes 2–3 hours. Skipping this step can cause “tunnelling,” where the wax burns down the centre and wastes a significant portion of your candle.
Before each burn, trim your wick to about 5mm. A shorter wick means a cleaner, steadier flame, less soot, and a longer-lasting candle. You can use scissors, a wick trimmer, or even your fingers once the wax has fully cooled. If you notice the flame getting too large or flickering excessively, extinguish the candle, let it cool, and trim before relighting.
Our Wild Wonders candles are designed for 30+ hours of burn time — but only if you treat them well. Burn for no more than 4 hours at a time, and always allow the candle to cool completely before relighting. Keep your candle away from draughts, which can cause uneven burning and increase soot. Never leave a burning candle unattended.
Once your candle has burned down (leave about 1cm of wax at the bottom — never burn to the very end), the jar is yours to reimagine. Pop it in the freezer for an hour and the remaining wax will contract and lift out easily. Then clean with warm soapy water. Our jars make beautiful containers for cotton buds, small plants, desk supplies, or a little bunch of wildflowers.
Taking a little care goes a long way. A well-loved Wild Wonders candle will reward you with hours of clean, beautiful scent — and a jar worth keeping.
