The Story Behind Our Candles: How Wild Wonders Was Born

There are moments in life that change everything. For me, it was standing in a lavender field in Valensole, Provence, surrounded by the scent of lavender drifting through warm summer air, and thinking: I want to bring this feeling home.
Wild Wonders began not in a factory, but at a kitchen table in County Meath — with a pot, some soy wax, and a stubborn belief that everyday life deserves a little more beauty in it.
Before candles, I was a teacher. I spent years pouring energy into classrooms, watching curiosity light up in people's faces. When I stepped away, I needed something that gave me that same spark. Travelling through Europe — France, Italy, Portugal — I found it in the small, handcrafted things. The olive oil soaps. The herb bundles. The candles burning in tiny trattorias that made a simple room feel like somewhere special.
I came home to Meath and started experimenting. Hundreds of test burns. Countless wick adjustments. Scent combinations that didn't work, and a few that were absolutely magical. Every candle you see in our shop today is the result of that process — slow, careful, and made entirely by hand.
We use only natural soy wax and pure essential oils because that's what I'd want burning in my own home. No synthetic fragrances. No paraffin. Just clean, honest ingredients that are kind to you and to the environment.
Our scents are inspired by places and moments: the freshness of an Irish meadow after rain (Fresh Meadows), the quiet of an early morning (Morning Hush), the golden warmth of a long summer evening (Warm Sunsets), the calm of a lavender field in bloom (Lavender Fields). Each one is a small story.
Wild Wonders is still made right here in Meath, one candle at a time. When you light one of our candles, you're not just filling a room with scent — you're holding something made with real care, in a real place, by real hands.
That's the only way we know how to do it.
