Walk into any large retailer and you'll find candles everywhere — cheap, cheerful, and often heavily scented. But flip one over and read the label. Paraffin wax. Synthetic fragrance. Ingredients you can't pronounce.
At Wild Wonders, we made a different choice from day one. Here's why it matters.
Paraffin is a by-product of petroleum refining. When burned, it can release compounds including toluene and benzene — the same chemicals found in diesel exhaust. In a well-ventilated space, the risk is low, but in a small room with poor airflow, it adds up over time. It's also not biodegradable and is derived from a non-renewable resource.
We don't think that belongs in your home.
Soy wax is made from soybean oil — a natural, renewable resource. It burns cooler and slower than paraffin, which means your candle lasts longer (our candles are designed for 30+ hours of burn time). It produces significantly less soot, keeping your walls, ceilings, and lungs cleaner. And when your candle is finished, soy wax cleans up easily with warm water.
Soy wax is also biodegradable and, in our case, vegan-friendly — no animal products, ever.
Many candles use synthetic fragrance oils, which can contain hundreds of undisclosed chemical compounds. Some people are sensitive to these — experiencing headaches, irritation, or respiratory discomfort — without ever knowing why.
We use only pure essential oils, derived directly from plants. Our Lavender Fields candle contains real lavender oil. Our Fresh Meadows scent is built from natural botanical extracts. What you smell is what it is — nothing hidden, nothing artificial.
Choosing a natural candle isn't just a lifestyle preference — it's a small, meaningful decision. It supports sustainable agriculture, reduces your exposure to synthetic chemicals, and means less environmental impact when the candle is gone.
Every Wild Wonders candle is handcrafted in County Meath using natural soy wax, pure essential oils, and a commitment to doing things properly. Because you deserve to know exactly what's burning in your home.
